New year, new act – Workers’ compensation information sessions Back
Print

The Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act (WA) 2023 is due to commence on 1 July 2024. Put simply the Act has been completely rewritten with all sections reordered, re-worded and better organised. Changes to the Act are numerous and have implications for local governments as both employers and members of LGIS.

It's vital that all local government officers who are involved in workers' compensation claims are across the changes and what it means for how they manage claims and work with LGIS.

Starting in February, LGIS is running an extensive series of Scheme funded information sessions for members. The first dates are listed below with an online version to come and another in-person session for the Mid-West.

Click on the dates below to book your spot.

Our speakers from WorkCover WA, Mills Oakley, and Moray & Agnew will cover:

  • WorkCover's implementation plan
  • Key dates for regulation release
  • Major changes to liability decision making process
  • Provisional changes and deemed acceptance
  • Stress claim exclusions
  • Rising medical cost of claims
  • Pre-employment screening limitations
  • Vocational rehabilitation duties and case conferences

Each session will also include an opportunity to ask local government specific questions. For more information on these events contact admin@lgiswa.com.au or book online at the links above.
